PARTNERSHIPS

QUALIFICATIONS IN DEMENTIA

Qualifications in dementia

Qualifications in Dementia is a partnership formed between experienced dementia specialists Beeches Training and Support in Dementia to deliver Levels 2 and 3 Awards in Awareness of Dementia Care.

The Awards form part of a suite of qualifications in dementia care that have been developed by Skills for Care and Development, to support government strategies to increase knowledge, understanding and skills of caring for people living with dementia. These qualifications support the changing needs within the sector and are part of the Workforce Development Plan established through the National Dementia Strategy Project (England) 2009.

The purpose of the programme:

To develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required when providing person-centred care for people living with dementia and their families, thereby enhancing the level of care provided.

Why choose Qualifications in Dementia to deliver the programme to your staff?

All our associates are highly skilled specialist dementia trainers with many years’ experience of developing and delivering high quality, effective dementia training in the health and social care sector. This has culminated in the creation of a delivery style that is relaxed and interactive. Assessment tasks are creative and enjoyable and the transfer of learning from the training room to the workplace is guaranteed as learners are encouraged to create resources to share with colleagues.

We can deliver the following programmes (click on course title to download more information):
  • • Level 2 Award in awareness of dementia
  • • Level 3 Award in awareness of dementia
  • • Coming soon! Level 2 Award in supporting activity provision in social care
  • • Coming soon! Level 3 Award in leadership in dementia care
These courses are accredited by Open College Network (OCN) London

The Awards can be commissioned by an organisation for delivery in-house to all staff working with people living with dementia. Or you could book your staff on to one of our open courses.

Experienced dementia specialists Beeches Training and GM Building and Property Services Ltd have come together to form Precious Minds to provide fun sessions for school children in years 3 and above to raise awareness of dementia.

This is a fun and interactive programme using games and arts and crafts to help children to overcome their fear of dementia.

Sessions can be provided to small or large groups and can be adapted depending on age and ability. Parents are welcome to attend the workshops at school with their children.

Aims of the programme are to:
  • Remove the fear around dementia.
  • Help children to communicate and interact with a person living with dementia.
  • Support children to understand the impact of making someone with dementia feel safe.
  • Identify ways for schools to support the community and people living with dementia.

Feedback received:

I just wanted to say how much the year 5 pupils enjoyed your workshop today. I spoke to all the teachers and some of the pupils and they were all really positive about it. We noticed there was a good range of activities balanced in an informative way.”

Gill Turner – Headteacher – Greenholm Primary School
